The Center as a non-profit organization was established to
encounter major problems in Jordan in terms of political, environmental, economical and
social aspects. The main target is to achieve integrated and sustainable development
through objective scientific research, activating dialogue and national debate, organizing
seminars and workshops and the exchange of expertise with other organizations:
1- To promote a sustainable democracy through the encouragement of
democratic culture such as sponsoring national dialogue, encouraging political
participation, updating democratic legislation, strengthening the role of civil society
organizations and, improving the negotiations skills, and reaching compromise solutions.
2- To serve as a national center for thinking with a view of tackling
priority economic and social issues and challenges, to encourage thinking and proposals
for solutions and economic policies to government departments and private sector
institutions.
3- To publish and encourage the publication of scientific research and
to provide an appropriate scientific framework for dialogue and cooperation between
Jordanian researchers and their counterparts in the Arab World and in the world at large.
4- To contribute to the building of functional networks linking research
centers in Jordan with similar institutions in the Arab World and the world at large with
the aim of embarking on common projects and ventures.
5- To build data bases in the areas of interest to the functions of the
UJRC, particularly as regards political and parliamentary participation in Jordan, civil
society organizations, non-government organizations, womens organizations, cultural
life, national economy and tourism.
6- To provide training opportunities and the exchange of expertise in
the areas of democratic development, human rights, political participation, the
democratization of non-government parties and organizations, the press, the media,
parliamentary work and local government.
7- To assess the impacts of different activities on the environment with
especial emphasis on water resources and utilize technical knowledge and scientific
research to better plan and manage the natural resources.
