ABOUT MDF4:
The Fourth Mediterranean Development Forum (MDF4), to be held in Amman,
Jordan from October 6-9, 2002, will bring together 500 participants
from think tanks, NGOs, media, government, and the private sector
from across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to openly
debate key and frontier regional issues and support, facilitate networking,
and create communities of practice. MDF4 is being organized by an
MDF partnership comprised of Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA)
think tanks, United Nations Development Program, and the World Bank
Institute. Honored guests from the host country will include His Majesty
King Abdullah Abdullah II of Jordan.
Through media coverage and high-level participants attending the Forum,
MDF4 will bring visibility to key but sensitive and cutting edge issues
in the region, providing momentum for breakthroughs in some countries.
MDF4 workshops will address regional issues related to trade and investment,
employment and unemployment, empowering local governments and digital
inclusion. Other critical regional issues to be debated during special
sessions in the form of round table discussions include media, gender
and citizenship, corporate social responsibility, youth, water, civil
society and globalization, and corporate governance.
As the private sector will play a key role in the development of the
MENA region, MDF4 will highlight private sector participation throughout
the event. Key internationally renowned high-level private sector
participants from inside and outside the region will speak on the
plenaries, in the workshops, and in special sessions.
