THE AL-URDUN AL-JADID RESEARCH CENTER

Water and Environment program

The Jordanian environment is characterized by special features that makes its environmental agenda rich in several environmental issues and problems that constitutes much of the global environmental topics at the new Millennium. In addition to that the Jordanian environmental dimension are interlinked to regional ones, since Jordan is strategically located in one of the most crucial and diverse habitats in the world; the Middle East. However, the volatility of the geo-political situation in the Middle East hinders collective and comprehensive regional environmental collaboration in tackling issues of mutual interests.
Without doubt, the single most serious environmental challenge for Jordan lies in its ability to sustainably manage its scarce water resources.
Based on its experience as a strategic and socio-economic center, UJRC will approach the environment from socio-economic, political and scientific perspectives altogether. This holistic approach, we believe, is the most suitable for environmental policy formation and monitoring due to the ever-changing trends in environmental activities towards more engagement of humanism values and sustainable development indicators with emphasis on human welfare and safeguarding environmental resources for coming generations.
