1- The Fourth Geneva Convention:
speaker: Jurist attorney Jamal AL Refa'ei, July


This seminar will discuss the Geneva Convention with regard to the situation in the occupied territories. It will also clarify the basic concepts and principles of the mentioned treaty and the compliance and implementation of its principles and resolutions.


2- Women and Elections:
Speaker: Attorney Asma Khader, August 14th 2002


This seminar will discuss the role of women in elections and the rights awarded to women under the current elections law. This seminar will also attempt to suggest reforms aimed at enhancing the role of women in parliament by encouraging participation and representation.


3- Human Rights and Intellectual Property Rights:
Speaker: attorney yunes Arab, September 19th 2002


This seminar will discuss intellectual property rights and its influence on human rights in the country. It will also refer to the author's right and copyrights protection and law enforcement as regard to such rights and obligations.


4- New approaches to Human Rights. The right to development:
Speaker: Dr Abla Amawi, October 9th 2002


This seminar will discuss new trends in the field of human rights from a development point of view. The seminar will also explain the relationship between development and human rights as perceived worldwide.


5- Children's rights in Jordan:
Speaker: Dr Hend al Naser, November 6th 2002


This seminar will discuss children's rights in the country. It will also describe the mechanisms of how children are treated and offered protection through the specialized agencies and institutions.


6- Human Rights and the right of self-expression:
Speaker Dr Kamel El Said, December 11th 2002


This seminar will discuss the right of self-expression and how it is protected under the Jordanian Penal code. It will also interpret ate the existing laws related this field in attempt to evaluate the situation and its relation to human rights as perceived by international agreements.

1- Towards achieving a more efficient and participatory role in proposing draft laws in Jordan:
Speaker: Dr Mohammed Masalha, June 26th 2002
This seminar discussed the mechanism of how draft laws are being proposed. It also referred to some cultural and social elements which plays a big role in such due process. The speaker also recommended some measures that if taken will enhance the participatory role of the population as regard to such process.


2- New approaches to Human Rights: The right of an adequate environment:
Speaker: Dr Ramzi Batayneh, June 5th 2002
This seminar discussed a new dimension and trend in the field of human rights related to an adequate environment. The speaker also emphasized that the right to adequate environment can not be granted unless it was dealt with by the necessary scientific techniques and facts. The seminar also discussed some of the relevant international agreements and treaties related to this field and Jordan's compliance with such treaties. The speaker also recommended various measures to be taken to develop and improve the environment and therefore entitle the population to enjoy such a right more effectively.

3-Women in the New Personal Status Law:
Speaker: attorney Akef Al-Ma'ayta, May 57th 2002
This seminar discussed the latest amendments to the existing Personal Status Law. It also discussed some of the related issue and implications that arises upon the implementation of this law. The speaker also clarified some of the issues related to certain procedures and the capacity of marriage for the parties concerned.

4- The Economics of Human Rights:
Speaker: Dr Ibrahim Badran April 29th 2002
Dr Badran Vice President of Philadelphia University spoke about some economical and development factors and its influence on issues related to human rights. He also concluded that the level of human rights development and awareness increases in cases whereby the standard of development and living standards is higher. Dr badarn also suggested that a more transparent system will enhance human rights development.

5- The World Bank and Human Rights and Development:
Speaker: Dr khaled Al Takhayneh April 15th 2002
Dr Al Takhayneh the Human Rights coordinator at the Ministry of foreign affairs spoke about the role of the World Bank (WB) in promoting Human Rights principles and norms. He also spoke about the influence of the WB policies in the world and in particular in third world countries. He concluded some major recommendation to the institution to become more democratic and less political.

6- Parliamentary Elections from Human Rights perspective:
Speaker: Mr. Hani Hourani, March 24th 2002.
Mr. hourani Director of the Urdun Al Jadid research center spoke about the new elections law pertaining to the upcoming elections. He also spoke about some of the citizen rights under the new law after its amendment and referred to some institutional aspects in the is matter

Training

Course 1

A training course about "The methodology of preparing human rights reports according to the United Nations laws" at the hall of Al-Urdun Al-Jadid Center, 23/3/2000.

Course 2

The human rights program held a training course in cooperation with the Human Rights Project at the British embassy and the HABITAT International Coalition.The title of the course was
the protection of economic, social and cultural rights, Marmara Hotel, October 13-15th 2001
