JFED's
objectives and tasks:
JFED goals are guided by the need to overcome the economic
challenges that face Jordan today, particularly the
decrease in the gross domestic product (GDP) rate and
the increase in the population growth rate. The forum's
goals are also set based on the need to adapt to globalization,
economic liberalization and reform, which all require
setting up new economic policies, improved utilization
of productive resources, developing the competitiveness
of the Jordanian economy, and reinforcing and motivating
the progressive factors in all the economic sectors.
The goals are as follows:
- 1.
To encourage dialogue on economic policy between the
government, private sector, non-governmental organizations
(NGOs) and academic sectors, as well as dialogue concerning
pressing national, regional and international economic
issues, particularly those that affect and reflect
the Jordanian economy. The forum also contributes
to the process of finding appropriate solutions, and
conveying them and the relevant recommendations to
decision makers in both the executive and legislative
authorities, as well as to business organizations
and the media dealing with economics.
- To
contribute to raising the public awareness of the
international and regional economic challenges, by
having experts and relevant authorities present and
explain internal economic policies and developments.
This is achieved through organizing symposiums and
workshops, and utilizing various means of publication.
The forum also formulates modern, developed economic
concepts, and strives to become familiar with the
international economic environment and policies, as
well as with the strategies adopted by the different
economic institutions, in addition to reinforcing
transparency, accountability and democratic mechanisms.
- To
prepare annual and bi-annual reports which analyze
the performance of the Jordanian economy and study
major economic indicators. The forum also publicizes
the proceedings of symposiums and workshops it organizes,
as well as its activities and programs, in a periodical
newsletter.
-
To build an economic database and ensure it can be
accessed by decision makers in all the different sectors,
in order to help them formulate timely decisions and
predictions. The forum also aims at enabling access
for research on the Internet and to build a library
to include economic references, books and periodical
publications, as well as studies, research and working
papers presented during specialized symposiums and
conferences.
-
To cooperate with similar Arab, regional and international
organizations in order to formulate strategies and
work mechanisms that are appropriate to meet the challenges
of globalization, particularly the policies of economic
liberalization, privatization, intellectual property
and Jordanian partnership agreements with the European
Union and the World Trade Organization. The forum
aims at enhancing joint Arab economic work and the
social impact of the policies of structural adjustment,
privatization and globalization.
